British Council offers new PhD scholarships and collaboration opportunities

The British Council is now accepting applications to its programs for PhD study and research collaboration.
The aim of the Newton PhD Programme is to facilitate the capacity building of individuals, and the building of sustainable, long-lasting links between UK and Philippine institutions, through PhD scholarships. The scholarships are for full-time PhD study in the UK from January 2018 until March 2021. This opportunity is open to researchers who are eligible to apply for the CHED Foreign Scholarships for Graduate Studies for Faculty and Staff during the K to 12 Transition Period.
Newton Institutional Links provides grants for the development of research and innovation collaborations between the UK and the Philippines. The research facilitated by these grants tackles local development needs and challenges such as extreme weather conditions, access to affordable health care, food and energy security. The grants are intended to provide small-scale seed funding to:
• start and develop collaborations between academic groups, departments and institutions in partner countries and the UK
• support the exchange of expertise and research knowledge
• establish local hubs for UK-partner country activities
Grants can be between £50,000 to £120,000 over two years for the UK partner, and up to Php10 million for the Philippine partner.
The application deadline is 13 June 2017.
