General Principles

The Natatangi is an exemplary UP institution that demonstrates karangalan at kahusayan sa paglilingkod para sa bayan.

The principles of karangalan at kahusayan sa paglilingkod para sa bayan are exemplified through, but not limited to the following:

  • Public service initiatives and/or programs of the unit
  • Extension program initiatives and/or projects of the unit
  • Publications and/or creative works of the individual members that are aligned with the unit agenda
  • Academic, research/ creative work, and innovation programs of the unit, including but not limited to curricular reviews, curricular proposals, research/ arts programs, writing of a monograph, and utilization of new knowledge/ creations for public good
  • Local, national, and international recognition of the unit (awards, distinctions)
  • Local, national, and international recognition of the individual members of the unit
  • Citations of excellence from various stakeholders
  • Quality Assurance (QA) Certifications

Nature of Award

The award shall be given to any academic institution in UP Constituent Universities and autonomous college (degree-granting) that embodies the University’s principles of karangalan at kahusayan sa paglilingkod para sa bayan. Three (3) awardees of the Gawad Pangulo sa Natatanging Akademikong Institusyon will receive PhP 150,000.00 each.

Eligibility:

  • Must be a degree granting academic unit of the UP Constituent Universities and autonomous college
  • Must have vision, mission, and goals aligned with the University’s principles of karangalan at kahusayan sa paglilingkod para sa bayan.

Requirements:

Round 1

  1. Applications must be accompanied by an online portfolio that includes:
    1. a brief description of the institution and its main contribution to the University’s principles of karangalan at kahusayan sa paglilingkod para sa bayan (not more than 250 words)
    2. declared vision, mission and goals of the unit
    3. declared research, creative work, extension agenda of the unit
    4. alignment of the unit’s accomplishments to b and c
    5. accomplishments in the last five (5) years
    6. supporting documents
  1. Endorsement letter from the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs/Associate Dean for Academic Affairs (for UP Tacloban College), Vice Chancellor for Research and Development/Extension, and the Chancellor/Dean (for UP Tacloban College)

Round 2

The top 5 applicants shall be chosen as finalists and shall be awarded PhP 50,000.00 each to prepare:

  1. A studio-quality video of the unit’s accomplishments (4-5 minutes)
  2. A live presentation to the board of judges explaining what it means to be Natatanging Akademikong Institusyon and why the unit deserves this award.

Board of Judges:

For the first round, the board of judges will consist of the AVPAAs and two Professors Emeriti appointed by the OVPAA.

For the second round, the board of judges will consist of the President or delegated representative, and Vice Presidents.

Judging Criteria:

The applicants will be judged according to their exemplary demonstration of the University’s principles of karangalan at kahusayan sa paglilingkod para sa bayan. High points will be given to projects and/or programs that demonstrate a positive impact on the quality of life and the attitudes and behaviors of the members of a community.
