UP SYSTEM RESEARCH GRANTS

Research grants offered by the UP System are generally aimed at raising the level and quality of scholarly and creative work by faculty and REPS. The grants are competitive and research results must be reviewed.

Emerging Inter-Disciplinary Research (EIDR).  The University is inviting innovative, interdisciplinary, inter-CU research programs and projects that aim to generate fundamentally new knowledge contributing to the understanding of natural phenomena, and with beneficial applications.  Further proof of concept/principle of UP patents for technology transfer and business development are prioritized.  General research areas for this grant include:

  • progressive pedagogy
  • Philippine culture, arts, mass communication, humanities, to enhance national identity, global orientation or tourism development
  • poverty alleviation:  family and community development
  • health, disease and wellness
  • agriculture, aquaculture, animal husbandry and nutrition
  • environment, climate and energy
  • biodiversity, conservation and drug discovery
  • genomics, other “-omics” and biotechnology
  • ICT engineering, nanotechnology
  • computational modeling, complex systems

EIDR grants are awarded up to the amount of P2.5M per project, or P10M per program (for 4 projects) per year, for 2 years, renewable for another two years.

 Enhanced Creative Work and Research Grants (ECWRG).  Faculty (Instructor 4 and higher) and REPS are invited to submit proposals for the ECWRG.  Proponents who may be from different colleges or CUs but with related fields/disciplines, may work together and combine multiple grants to support larger projects.  However, each grant should have one output at the end of the grant period.Grants vary based on faculty rank, from P450,000 to P650,000 (less withholding tax) for a 1.5 year project. Balik-PhD Start-Up Grant.  Foreign-trained faculty recruits are invited to submit proposals directly related to their dissertations or research projects undertaken abroad.  Grant awards are in the amount of up to P2.5M. Emerging Science and Technology Research Grant (ESTRG).  Proposals are invited for inter-/multi-disciplinary research projects/programs focusing on genomics for health, agriculture, biodiversity and forensics.
