To address this concern, many faculty members have started using AI detectors—special programs designed to identify whether an assignment was written by a human or generated by AI. But are these detectors fair and reliable?

This study explores students’ perceptions of AI detection tools and their opinions on whether teachers are using them appropriately. Some students support the technology, saying it encourages originality and independent thinking. Others express concern, fearing that AI detectors may falsely accuse them of cheating, leading to unfair consequences. Beyond technical issues, the study raises important ethical questions about fairness, privacy, and transparency in education. Should schools have clearer guidelines on AI use? Should students be notified when their work is checked by AI? Should professors rely on AI detectors alone, or combine them with their own judgment?
